Around the World | India Part Two

Mr Fogg's Society of Exploration

Covent Garden, London

After exploring the cosmopolitan metropolis of Mumbai, our adventurous pair embarked upon a 4,200km journey across India to Darjeeling. Darjeeling is a municipality in the Indian state of West Bengal, located at the bottom of the Himalayas and renowned for its tea production. The evergreen slopes of the region are home to acres of verdant tea plantations. The explorers visited a large plantation, gaining an insight into the tea production process, as well as sampling wide varietea of tea. Here, amidst the vast selection of teas, they had discovered the first of many valuable ingredients for their very own Around the World cocktail!

The province of Darjeeling is also known for its stunning sunrise views; so, the avid adventurers clambered up Tiger Hill at break of day, hoping to observe a panoramic view of sunrise illuminating the picturesque snow-capped peaks of India’s most mountainous region. Undeterred by a thick cloud blanketing the region which spoiled the experience, our ardent adventurers were instead able to savour a picture-postcard view from the comfort of their bedroom the following morning!

Following Darjeeling, an exciting sixteen-hour stay in the sprawling city of Kolkata, India’s second largest city and former capital of the British Empire, concluded our explorers’ Indian adventure. Here, they toured the City of Joy in an iconic yellow taxi, sampled flavourful Bengali curries and visited the Victoria Memorial – a grand Indo-Saracenic revivalist-style memorial. Next stop, Singapore!
